Federico Valverde fue nominado a mejor jugador del mundo de 2024 por la IFFHS
Como todos los años desde 1987, la Federación Internacional de Historia y Estadística de Fútbol (IFFHS, por su sigla en inglés) dio a conocer la lista de candidatos a mejores futbolistas del 2024. El jurado que participará de la votación está compuesto por miembros de la IFFHS (periodistas deportivos y expertos en fútbol) de 120 países de todos los continentes del mundo. Se entregarán el 1º de enero de 2025.
Solamente hay un uruguayo nominado en la categoría: Federico Valverde, a mejor jugador del mundo. En esta nómina, están presentes otros cuatro jugadores sudamericanos: los brasileños Vinícius Jr y Rodrygo (Real Madrid), el argentino Lautaro Martínez (Inter) y el colombiano James Rodríguez (Rayo Vallecano), la gran sorpresa.
El volante de Real Madrid jugó todos los partidos posibles con su club en lo que va de la temporada 2024/2025, y además solamente no completó los 90 minutos ante Alaves por LaLiga, cuando jugó 69. Con el equipo merengue lleva dos goles y dos asistencias en esta campaña.
