Paraguay le ganó 1-0 a Brasil en Asunción y cerró una gran doble fecha
Paraguay venció 1-0 a Brasil en el estadio Defensores del Chaco, de Asunción, por el cierre de la octava fecha de las Eliminatorias sudamericanas rumbo a la Copa del Mundo 2026 de México, Estados Unidos y Canadá. Diego Gómez, con un golazo, le dio la victoria a la Albirroja, que, en el comienzo de la era Gustavo Alfaro, sumó cuatro puntos de seis posibles ante Uruguay y la Auriverde.
El inicio del partido fue muy chato; ningún combinado lograba imponer superioridad sobre su rival y ambos se mostraban imprecisos durante los primeros minutos, producto del nerviosismo.
Recién a los 19 minutos de juego llegó la primera jugada clara del encuentro y terminó en gol. Diego Gómez sacó un gran remate desde el borde del área y la pelota pegó en el palo para terminar en el fondo de la red. A los 31', Vinícius Jr dejó a varios futbolistas por el camino y jugó al medio para Guilherme Arana, quien definió ante la gran salvada en la línea por parte de Júnior Alonso.
La última chance del primer tiempo la tuvo la selección locataria a través de un tímido intento desde afuera del área por intermedio de Julio Enciso, quien probó suerte con un tiro que terminó controlando sin problemas el arquero brasileño Alisson.
Los brasileños salieron al complemento en busca de un gol temprano que los colocara rápido en partido. A los 47', Rodrygo recibió la pelota entre los centrales, pisó el área y mandó la pelota muy alta. A los 53', Luiz Henrique colocó un centro para Joao Pedro, que conectó un cabezazo que se fue por encima del arco.
